Middle East. Offshore jack-up. Drilling the 12¼" section.
At 4,210ft, Spotter started flagging. Static friction warnings across three consecutive stands. Break-over torque warnings in the same zone. Friction increasing on both lateral and rotational movement.
The crew kept drilling. The warnings were logged.
The confirmation
When they pulled out of hole with the BHA, the same zone lit up again. Static friction. Break-over torque. Drag encountered. The pipe had to be worked through the interval.
One team member put it simply: "Lit the screen up like a Christmas tree."
The warnings while drilling had called the zone. The trip out confirmed it.
The response
Then came the casing run. But this time the rig already knew where the problem was.
Before entering the 4,200–4,400ft interval, the crew increased flow rate to wash through the risk zone. Casing ran to TD. No issues.
What we're saying — and what we're not
We're not claiming Spotter prevented stuck casing. That's a counterfactual no one can prove. What we can show is the sequence:
First pass while drilling — Spotter flagged the zone. Second pass on POOH — the same zone confirmed the risk. Third pass on the casing run — the crew went in prepared and made it through clean.
The visibility was there. The evidence built across passes. The crew used it when it mattered.
