Serafima Schaefer, Exebenus Well Digitalization Manager, presents “An Electronic Rig Action Plan—Information Carrier Equally Applicable to the Driller and the Automation Platform,” a joint paper between Aker BP and Exebenus at the SPE ATCE 2019 in Calgary, Canada. The presentation will be given on October 1, 10:30 am, Hall E, Screen A.

The paper discusses a new methodology for digitalizing operating procedures and activities to make the rig action plan a dynamic information exchange platform between the planning and execution phase. Digitilizing the workflow and structuring the information enables engineers to plan operations and transmit procedures and related parameters in a consistent and standardized format applicable to the driller and the drilling control system’s automation platform. The presentation demonstrates, by reviewing existing rig action plans and activities, how structuring of the information using the proposed methodology allows planned procedures to be readable by the driller as well as by a drilling automation platform. The result of applying the proposed methodology is presented along with an overview of a pilot project. The benefits of digitalizing the workflow and implementing an open, structured, machine readable rig action plan demonstrate how the new approach will contribute to the oil and gas technologies ambition to automate operations.
